Testing Blogo offline = fail

*Update: I got an email from Ben at Brainjuice and there is a save function while offline. It is tucked away in the menu bar under File > Save As. It sounds as if future updates are on their so if you have feedback get it out to the team via GetSatisfaction.

Wow, that was the shortest test ever. While offline I can only preview. There is no posting (obviously) but most importantly there is no save function. Now lets think about this. Why would I want a desktop application that only works while I’m online?

Blogo is an epic fail and I’m ending this test drive early. Now time to turn on AirPort and publish this post. *sigh*

Still test driving blogo. Now I’m checking it out as an offline option to see what features are available, how it handles saving a draft and syncing up with my online changes.

How Much Would You Pay For Twitter?

Yesterday, Guy Kawasaki posted a poll on SocialSurvey asking the question, “How much would you pay to use Twitter?”. The poll was reported on early in the day by TechCrunch and at that time more than 50% of all respondents stated they would pay at least $5 monthly. At the time of this posting, however, the numbers have shifted greatly and the majority now say they would rather see it go away than pay.

Iowa Web Awards & Ignite Des Moines Recap

The Iowa Web Awards were held last week along with Ignite Des Moines at Impromptu Studio. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to the big event but from my monitoring the happenings on ustream it looked like on hell of a night. And with nearly 80 people, beer from Olde Main Brewing Co and an egg catapult who would expect less?

The Iowa Web Awards are Iowa’s version of the Webby Awards. All of the categories, nominations, and votes were from the community. This was all orchestrated online and more specifically through twitter. From blog there was a little bit of flare up concerning the true reach and marketing however given this was year one I hope to see this concept continue to grow. At the event the winners were announced and given a small badge to take home and a later was created to be used on their website. The full list of winners can be found on the Des Moines Register (who didn’t at first but is now linking out to the winners).

Shameless plug: I was somehow nominated for an award for Best Twitter-er and Microblink was up for two. I was honored and surprised to find out myself so to those who voted for me and to the person(s) who nominated me and Microblink THANK YOU!

Ignite Des Moines, the mainstage for the night, is an interesting concept. Before the day of the event participants submitted ideas for short, timed presentations. Presenters were given strict time constraints and number of slides. And after the presentations were complete additional decks were presented for anyone in the audience to get up and speak to.

Overall the night looked like a blast and demonstrates the potential in our growing Des Moines community and the power of Twitter to create real and lasting relationships. I’m looking forward to seeing these events coming back next year and big thanks to Impromptu Studio for hosting it!
