Hightlight Midwest: Oct 29 in Kansas City
Great things are happening in the Midwest. In Des Moines the creative class is booming and through events like BarCamp I have had the opportunity to connect to many others who have accomplished the same in their city. From this connecting and collaboration, contacts from across Kansas City, Omaha and Des Moines are working together to organize a new event titled Highlight Midwest. The marketing blurb for this event states:
Highlight Midwest showcases the entrepreneurs, innovators, and early-adopters using web technology to grow their businesses, advance their careers, and enrich the regional economy in new ways.
Many states in the Midwest have long held the title of “fly over states”. The goal of this event is to show what we really have to offer. This will be done by highlighting all of the great things that are happening and have been accomplished in the Midwest. And the event itself has been separated into two different formats to accomplish this:
The first part of the day will include focused highlights. This will include demos and presentations of the many projects taking place in each city. This may include demonstrating a web application a start up company is working on to presentations on how companies are leveraging social media to grow their business. The details for this format have not been finalized at this time however if you are interested in presenting please let me know so we can get it on the site.
The second part of the day is a formal event held at the Kauffman Center. There a representative from each city will present how the web is changing their cities for the better and how new opportunities for innovation are expanding the importance of web-based technology in the Midwest.
The contacts from each city are working hard to generate interest and plan out the details of the event. Much props to the Kansas City crew for taking lead on many of the items and overall I’m extremely excited for the whole event.
As of the right now my priorities are in getting the word out. Traveling to Kansas City isn’t a drop of the hat type of event for anyone I know of so to ensure there is a good showing in participants and highlights I need help spreading the word. If you know of a company or persons that would be a perfect fit for presenting at this event let them know about it. Point them to this blog post or better yet to the Highlight Midwest website. If you are interested in attending or presenting please also register for the event through the site so we can have an idea of who many people will be there. And as always your tweets and blog posts about the event are always appreciated.
